Farizon reduces carbon emissions in global sustainability push

Farizon, the global new energy commercial vehicle subsidiary within Geely Holding Group, is continuing to drastically reduce the carbon emissions from its manufacturing and R&D operations.
Announced as part of Geely Holding Group’s 14th Annual Sustainability Report, Farizon has implemented 77 new carbon reduction projects within its manufacturing operations last year, along with 55 new projects within its R&D division. These measures have achieved an incremental annual carbon reduction of 35,000 tonnes, along with a 12.6 percent carbon footprint drop per vehicle.

Since 2021, Farizon has reduced its manufacturing stage carbon emissions by 52.7 percent per vehicle, and achieved a full lifecycle carbon footprint reduction of 11.7 percent.

As part of its efforts to improve sustainability in manufacturing and the wider supply chain, Farizon has been supporting suppliers in implementing and reporting their own carbon reduction measures, including recycled material application, energy-saving technical upgrades in production, green power use, and logistics optimisation. Within its own manufacturing facilities, Farizon has reused over 97 percent of materials that would otherwise have been sent to scrap.

Farizon is also paying particular attention to lightweighting measures to lower its carbon footprint as it designs its next-generation commercial vehicles. These measures include optimising structures and reducing material thickness, improving integration, and applying greater use of composite materials. Energy efficiency enhancement measures have included reducing wind and rolling resistance, improving motor efficiency, and refining torque strategies.

Looking ahead, Farizon aims to rely on 100 percent green power across its manufacturing bases by 2030, and achieve full lifecycle carbon neutrality by 2045.

Low carbon manufacturing

Located in the Xiangtan Economic Development Zone in Hunan, China, Farizon’s flagship manufacturing facility plans to operate on 100 percent renewable energy, primarily from solar and wind, with on-site generation capacity exceeding 40 percent of total consumption. Its closed-loop water recycling system reduces freshwater dependency by 75 percent, while AI-optimised logistics networks cut ancillary emissions by 30 percent. Every Farizon SV large van produced at the facility embeds sustainability across its lifecycle, aligning with EU Green Deal objectives and circular economy mandates.

Elsewhere, paint shops utilise water-based coatings with near-zero volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions, and welding lines deploy laser-brazing to eliminate lead-based solder. Interior components feature ocean-recycled plastics and certified organic fabrics, reducing virgin resource use by 50 percent. Farizon SV production also leverages a digital twin system to simulate energy use, ensuring each van’s carbon footprint is tracked and minimised.  

Sustainability extends beyond the Xiangtan facility itself. The plant enforces a Green Partner Certification for all tier one suppliers, mandating ISO 14001 compliance and carbon disclosure. Over 60 percent of components are sourced from within a 500 km radius, and electric inbound logistics further reduce emissions. Community initiatives include a battery regeneration hub that refurbishes used EV packs for solar farms, and a training centre that upskills workers in circular-economy manufacturing techniques. 

Methanol-fuelled logistics

While Farizon continues to advance its methanol technologies for the HGV sector, the company is also deploying methanol propulsion across the transportation ecosystem. Its technology is at the heart of the world’s first methanol-electric container-bulk vessel. The Visional 001 was launched in Hangzhou in September 2025, marking the expansion of Farizon’s methanol-electric drive technology to the marine sector.

When using green methanol fuel, the Visional 001 achieves carbon net-zero emissions. With a combined range of nearly 1,500km, it far exceeds the 250km range of mainstream 3,000kWh-class pure electric vessels. As such, it opens the door to a scalable and practical green transformation of the maritime sector and global shipping, including the global delivery of Farizon products.

Geely’s advancements in methanol technology highlight the significant R&D resources that sit at the heart of its business. Whether using a pure electric or methanol power source, reducing emissions remains a core aim of the Farizon brand.

Growing UK prominence

Farizon continues to expand in the UK, with the brand’s born-electric SV large van recently joined by the medium-sized V7E, a van targeted at urban logistics. Both models deliver a compelling blend of class-leading cargo carrying practicality, real-world range and performance, and optimum driver comfort and convenience.

The Farizon SV was a 2026 International Van of the Year finalist and recently won two Trade Van Driver Awards for ‘Best Technical Innovation’ and ‘Best Large Zero Emission Van’. Farizon recently celebrated its first large UK fleet deal after McFarlane Telfer (MCFT), specialists in maintenance and supply of commercial kitchen equipment, placed an order for 20 new SV large vans to support its team of nationwide Service Engineers.
